Show News!

May 30 - June 1: It's been a while but we have stepped back into the show ring and have been going ever since!  Last year, we did not show at all due to moving and trying to get this farm here up and running.  I didn't even get to go out and show Bubba at Worlds or Nationals.  So it was with a good bit of nervousness that I stepped into the ring in Syracuse for the NAA show.   Didn't help that the show started at 7:00 in the morning, NP Stallions being the first class...if you know me at all, you would know I am not a morning person!  So we go running in right before they close the gate, no makeup, only barely really ready...but we lived through it, and had a great show!  T and Pepper both earned a couple points, Spider didn't place but she was so good for Travis that I was just happy to see her standing there behaving!  I didn't think she'd place well considering the scar to her leg and the fact that she rubbed her tail off a few days before the show!

July 4-6: We went up to Plattsburg, hung out with Sawyer Creek - John and Julie Kreider are about the nicest folks you'll get to meet!  Met so many people and if I start listing them here, I know I'll leave someone out.  However, a few folks bear mentioning!  Pam for having the patience to sit and talk to me the entire time I banded Pepper and Spider's manes - and for always smiling!!!  Toma and Macee for just being great folks and pulling me into the group, Jaycee, Ann and Bonnie for always having something funny and friendly to say and Larry and Donna for all the jokes, quick witted humor and for just being good folks!  Oh - and I can't leave out Virgil and Linda Love, I still side with Virgil there, as there is absolutely nothing wrong with kissing your filly in the arena when she's so darn cute and behaving herself so well!  We had so much fun, showed against some really nice horses, saw even more really nice horses and had a great chicken BBQ.  I was promised that it would be a lot of fun, good food, and great people - and it was!  The kids had a blast, ran about playing with new friends all weekend and actually stayed out of trouble!  Now that was worth the drive in and of itself!!  Julie and John's daughter, Jillian, gave them rides on her mare, Cruella Deville and they are still talking about the fun they had!

I will say that I felt 100% more prepared and ready for this show and didn't have to go in frazzled like the last one.  And I was so proud of my girls!  Pepper didn't dance around nearly as much and Spider stood very patiently in Most Colorful!  She came home with a ribbon this time also - 4th place out of 18 horses!  Beat her little sis who got 5th under the same judge.  Tbug also found his manners when we stepped into the ring, which was good as he had been a bit of a brat leading to that moment!  He placed well, 3rd in NP under the two that took Grand and Reserve later in the show and then in Aged we had scared off all the competition ;o)  Had 3 blue ribbons but no points to show for it!  Maybe next time.

July 18-20: Went out to Massachusetts this time, a state we hadn't been in yet so it was a nice first!  The show was HUGE but the halter classes didn't seem to benefit from the size of the show.  However, we had a ton of fun even though we came home with no points to show for it.  Pepper and T were both in their age classes alone.  Pepper however showed her stuff in NP mares, placing 5th and 6th out of 8.  Spider on the other hand came into heat the day before we left...normally we don't have problems with that but between being a two year old teen queen and hormonal to boot...we had to have a few talks.  T wasn't on his best behavior either, but I suspect that was more along the lines of the fact that we didn't show until after lunch - his nap time, LOL!

August 1:  A quick trip to Syracuse for the Empire App Associations show, and what a great show!  We had a blast and came home with some points while we were at it.  T and I started the morning bright and early at 7 and we were actually ready this time (a miracle in and of itself!)  NP stallions had quite a few in the class, 8 I think.  We placed 5th under all 4 judges which was fine.  Then we went into Aged Stallions - 4 in the class!!  Wow - largest Aged class we'd been in all year!  So you can imagine how pleased I was to have him place 1st under all 4 judges.  Earned his World qualifying points though he'll be hanging out at home for that one.  Pepper went in with 5 fillies too, nice class sizes!  She placed 2nd, 3rd and two 4ths.  So we were really, really pleased.  Most Colorful was a bit disappointing, but not so much that we weren't still happy as we packed to head out :)

September 7:  Well we almost didn't go to the Cowboy Classic, having just made it through a couple of rough weeks here but I'm glad we went ahead, cleaned up Pepper and Zack and headed out there, even though it meant me getting up at 5:30 in the morning - scary!!!!

We took Zack for his first show and he did GREAT!  Only two colts in his class and he took the seconds, but he tried so hard to figure everything out, and stood relatively quietly all things considered.  And considering he's only been here a month, and of that month only really been worked a week...hey, like I said, its been a couple of rough weeks.  But he stuck it out and we expect he's only going to get better.  Pepper also showed her breeding, finally getting the "stand still" idea for most of her classes, and stood beautifully!  The judges thought so too I think!  In NP Mares which had over 10 mares in it, she took two 7ths and two 8ths.  Out of 9 weanling fillies, she placed 4th, 5th, 5th and 6th.  And then in Most Colorful which had somewhere around 14 horses or so, she took a 6th!

Unfortunately, we did forget the camera but I took a few shots at home, and a friend was snapping shots at the show and sent them on to me so we actually do have proof we were there, LOL!  Thanks Gail for the wonderful pictures!!!

Nov. 1-8:  WORLDS!!!!!  Oh no, we didn't come home with any cool trophies, but we knew we weren't going to!  But we had so much fun, despite the weeks being terribly hard to get through after the death of T two days before we left.  In a way, Worlds was a Godsend, it kept me going through the hardest days to get through.  Zack didn't take the long trip very well, nor the 80 degree temperatures we ran into when we got there!  So he wasn't in show shape for his debut into the World's arena, but he went out there and stood for me without spooking and acting like monsters were going to get him - a rather favorite game of his.  So I was proud of him, he gave me his best, we'll just have to work on the eating and drinking before showing stuff!!!

Pepper on the other hand doesn't believe in missing a meal, and when her appetite slacked off we knew something was up.  Sure enough, she had caught the crud going around and ran a fever most of the week, but she did so well out there, I was thrilled.  She ended up lining up between two very tall fillies, neither of which were highly colored either, which just made her look smaller with her coloring.  But she stood like a little trooper and at least one judge took notice of her and didn't hold her smaller size against her, placing her 14th in his book!  Yes, maybe I'm easily pleased but that's my baby!!!  And again - thank you Gail!  I'm just going to have to hire you as my full time photographer ;o)

I also showed our 3 year old, Bubba Moon, in NP Stallions.  I was really pleased with him, having not seen him in a couple of years and not having time to work with him before our class.  But I had no need to worry, he stood out there like a pro, he and I were both about as relaxed as a pair can be while showing at Worlds.  Unfortunately, too relaxed!  Bubba still has a small pouch where K-State messed up his colic surgery, and when he gets relaxed it sags a bit, giving him a bad appearance.  We were fine for the first half of the class I think!  But you stand out there so long, and that final profile is what really gets you...But that's OK, we'll get them with his babies and he's already started a new hobby - Roping!
